Bentley T1 Mulliner Park Ward DHC, 1968

Photo overview  -  Technical data  -  Information

In the year 1931 Bentley was taken over by Rolls Royce.
Ever since that moment Bentley was the second premier brand of Rolls Royce. The make Bentley was given the task to fulfill the needs of the more sportive Rolls Royce customer who preferred to drive himself. After world war two all Bentleys were based on Rolls Royce sister models with only slight changes. The most eye-catching difference was the beautiful, more rounded, Bentley grille. Only the Bentley Continental models were exclusively designed and constructed for Bentley.

In the year 1965 the Bentley T saw the light of day, at the same time as the sister model Rolls Royce Silver Shadow. The Bentley T and Rolls Royce Silver Shadow were a true revolution within the conservative company. The automobiles were designed with a unitary bodywork construction, independent suspension all round and disc brakes all round.
The supposed conservative clientele did not have any problem with the modern Rolls Royce and Bentley; The Rolls Royce Silver Shadow saloon (model I & II) was to become the best selling Rolls Royce ever. Over 30.000 were sold in twelve years time.
In the year 1970 the Bentley T1 was succeeded by the slightly improved T2. The engine became a larger cylinder capacity and was upgraded from 6230 cc. up to 6750 cc.
The more exclusive Bentley T1 and T2 models, compared to the Rolls Royce Silver Shadow, are relatively scarce; only about 1700 were built in twelve years time. The Drophead Coupe models are truly scarce. Only 41 Bentley T1 Mulliner Park Ward cars were built.
